#Empowered ~ Victoria Woodhull
Born into poverty in 19th century rural Ohio, Victoria Woodhull grew up as travelling clairvoyant with no formal education. Despite this, she grew to become a strong and wildly intelligent women, holding pioneering views way ahead of her time. Her involvement in the women’s suffrage movement saw her campaign for the right to divorce and support of women's sexual autonomy.
A proponent of free love and the first female to run for US Presidency in 1872, Victoria was fierce. She spent her Election Day in jail (due to publishing a newspaper exposing adulterous men of the time) and although her bid for presidency was unsuccessful, she was notorious in her attempts.
In upcoming film Victoria Woodhull, her life will be portrayed by actress of feminist ideals and actions; Brie Larson.
