#Empowered ~ Nora Ephron
This week's #EMPOWERED woman is Nora Ephron.
Nora's list of achievements is extensive: from journalist, essayist and novelist to playwright, screenwriter, producer and director!
She battled gender inequality in an industry that is still highly unrepresentative of women in front of the cameras and behind the scenes too. Nora began her career as a journalist at the Post, but she soon made a name for herself as a Hollywood screenwriter by producing the famous romantic comedy: ‘When Harry Met Sally’.
Nora’s feminism shines through her books , which give a witty, sharp and sometimes heartbreaking insight into her private life. Her 1983 autobiographical novel, ‘Heartburn’, depicts the breakdown of her marriage with refreshing honesty and killer one-liners. In 1996, she shared an incredibly important message with her old women's liberal-arts college in Wellesley:
"Above all, be the heroine of your own life, not the victim"
