#Empowered ~ Millicent Garrett Fawcett
An honourable part of first wave feminism of the late 19th century, Millicent Fawcett was a prolific campaigner who believed in nonviolent demonstrations - A part of the the wider suffrage movement, she considered herself more of a moderate suffragist than militant.
Fawcett dedicated herself to several other feminist causes over the course of her life, including curbing child abuse by raising the age of consent and preventing child marriage.
It was recently announced that Millicent Garrett Fawcett’s statue will stand in Parliament Square this year. As the first female statue to appear there, Fawcett’s legacy lives on as she further inspires the battle against the injustices of today.
